VENICE FROM 2009

Il progetto ” volti in transito” nasce dopo un breve periodo di scarsa ispirazione, un tempo da pagina bianca per citare Mallarmè, in cui non mi sono perso d’ animo e ho iniziato a cercare tra gli anfratti del mio archivio sperando di trovare una qualche linea guida. Mi sono accorto che in tutti i miei viaggi, e anche nella mia città, qualcosa mi spingeva a fotografare le persone che si lasciano trasportare dai mezzi pubblici o privati per brevi tragitti o per infiniti viaggi, oppure persone in attesa del treno o dell’aereo. Ho trovato, riflettendo, il tema molto interessante perchè  sono coinvolte nel viaggio praticamente tutte le classi sociali, soprattutto nei trasporti locali. Ci sono i turisti che vivono il viaggio (breve o lungo) come scoperta, i lavoratori che ne aproffittano per fare un breve riposo, quelli che si incontrano per caso e si scambiano qualche opinione o chiaccherano, quelli che si isolano per un momento di relax e leggono un libro o giocano con i telefoni o i tablet, e poi… si mangia (come in India), si ride, si dorme o semplicemente si pensa e si resta incantati dal paesaggio che corre via.

Insomma stazioni, aeroporti, fermate di metropolitane, imbarcaderi di vaporetti e i mezzi di trasporto stessi sono luoghi sociali dove a volte si creano incontri inaspettati, ma soprattutto sono luoghi colmi di umanità, vivi e mutevoli. Particolare non trascurabile spesso sono luoghi di architetture affascinanti o maestose, vere e proprie costruzioni dell’uomo o brevi sguardi su paesaggi urbani o naturali che volano via in un attimo e sono specchio dell’epoca in cui viviamo. Soprattutto volti quindi, ma in qualche rara immagine l’assenza di visi o, come in un fotogramma un pò ironico nella sezione dedicata a Venezia, piedi in transito, che sono il primario “mezzo di trasporto” per l’uomo.

Così ho cominciato con una nuova consapevolezza a scattare fotografie nei vaporetti e battelli di Venezia praticamente ogni giorno e durante i viaggi ho deciso di dedicare tempo a trattare lo stesso tema. Ho suddiviso il progetto in due parti; la prima riguarda Venezia, e la seconda i luoghi internazionali.

Il progetto Volti in transito Venezia è concluso e a breve lo presenterò con una mostra.

The “volti in transito”  project birth in a insufficient period of  photographic inspiration, a time of “white page” like used to say the poet Mallarmè, wherein I decide to look for in my archive hoping to find some guideline to continue my personal research. I discover that in all my journeys, but also in my city, I was attracted to photographs the people who travel with public or private transport to make a brief local itinerary or an infinite journey, otherwise I am attracted from the persons waiting the train, the boat or the flight. I found, reflecting, the theme very interesting because, specially in the local transport, every social class are rapresented. There are tourists who lives the trip (brief or long) like a discover of a unknow place, the commuters who try to lie down, the people who meet togheter by chance to have a little talk and the persons who prefer isolate theirself to read a book or to play with a mobile or a tablet… and finally the people during the trip eat, laugh, sleep or simply think, be pleasantly surprised by the landscape that run a way.

Stations, airports, underground and boat stops and transportation vehicles are social places where sometimes the people has unexpected encounter, and above all this places are lively, full of humanity and variable.

Often this stations are places of amazing architectures or brief gazes on the natural and artificial landscapes who fly way in a moment and however they are the mirror of our times. Often they are places of charming architectures, human construcion and natural majestics landscapes who fly away in a moment and often they are the mirror of our edge. Above all faces, but rarely, how in an ironic frame on the Venice project, feet in transit that are the main “vehicle” for the human being.

So I began to shoot on the Venice boats almost every day and during my journeys out of Venice I decide to follow the same subject. I separated the project in two parts: the first about Venice, and the second about alla round the world.

The project “volti in transito” is finished and soon it will be display with an exhibition.
